What does one get for their mothers on Mother’s Day when the latter say they want nothing at all? This was the exact situation I was in the week of Mother’s Day, when my mum (affectionately referred to as ‘Mummy Ong’) told me she wanted nothing except a nice dinner on the weekend. Some mothers mean it, and other’s don’t. I honestly couldn’t tell whether Mummy Ong was the former or the latter, and so I devised a plan that was infallible-to surprise her with some takeaway at work from the coolest and healthiest food joint down Avion Way – Cookie Dough.

If your mum is like mine, a busy workaholic who has been on a relentless diet for the last 20 years, some healthy bites from Cookie Dough affectionately delivered to her office doorstep on a workday is a prize-winning idea. Really! All you need is a couple bucks and a few hours to spare. So with some help from their friendly employees amongst the chic surroundings of their café (look out for the life-size chess pieces and bright, funky displays), I decided to order their signature BLT with Mayo and Relish as well as their Ginger, Carrot and Orange soup and their Tropical Berry smoothie to top it all off. Here’s our verdict on the delicious treats:

Soup of the day: Carrot, Ginger and Orange

I’m probably the pickiest person when it comes to vegetables (none of the ingredients of the soup are particularly loved by me), Cookie Dough’s soup totally hit the spot! For once, the two of us were in agreement, especially in terms of its savoury and warm blend of sweetness with a touch of ginger. Rich in texture but non-cloying on your palate, this is a great treat especially for a cold wintry day!

BLT

Not a fan of BLTs usually as I usually don’t like the taste of bacon, however this time rather than roughly plonking a couple slices onto a piece of bread like most do, Cookie Dough’s BLT was a dainty treat cut carefully into triangular slices with sweetly spiced bacon nestled amongst a selection of leafy greens and a sprinkling of homemade mayo. The highlight of the sandwich however, was the pumpkin bread, which was immensely smooth in texture and with a slight taste of pumpkin which offset the headiness of the mayo and bacon. On top of that, sunflower seeds adorning the sides of the bread gave it a nice crunch which we both agreed was wonderful!

Tropical Berry Smoothie

Dairy and gluten-free, the smoothie was supercharged with awesome ingredients such as coconut water, coconut milk, as well as a delightful combo of strawberry, banana, pineapple and mint. A refreshing drink that was healthy and looked amazing, the adorable printed takeaway cup that it comes in was an added bonus that made my day!

All in all, Mother’s Day or not, Cookie Dough is a great place to go just for some takeaway eats, or a nice chat over some healthy, delicious grub. So what are you waiting for? Head down to Times Square Claremont with mum in tow and treat her to some guilt-free treats to show you care.
